This week I wanted to share a mental health trick I just learned that’s highly correlated with positive moods. It’s free and surprisingly effective.
It’s called “emotional granularity” and it’s the focus of Brené Brown’s new HBO special Atlas of the Heart which I watched so you don’t have to. It sounds intricate but it’s simple. Emotional granularity is a person’s ability to differentiate between their emotions and label them correctly. Apparently, one of the most potent tools for lessening the intensity of difficult feelings is to simply name them but here’s the thing….
