I was sick last week but managed to recover just in time to catch Donald Trump deliver the verbal equivalent of that guy at a party who stands way too close, breathing a warm gust of stale air in your face. Truly a recovery highlight. “You will be protected, and I will be your protector,” said the convicted rapist-slash-felon at a rally in Indiana, Pennsylvania. “I always thought women liked me. I never thought I had a problem. But the fake news keeps saying women don’t like me.” Does anyone else suddenly feel the urge to shower?
He wrapped up his nightmare monologue set by promising that if he becomes president, women “will no longer be thinking about abortion.” Anyone else suddenly tasting metal?
Like I said on MSNBC last night with Ayman Mohyeldin, when I think of Donald Trump, 'safe' and 'protected' are the last words that come to mind. Come to think of it, if I had to choose between being alone in the woods with a bear or Donald Trump, I’d take the bear every time. Sure, the bear has large non-retractable claws, but at least it hasn’t been found liable for rape, accused by dozens more women of the same thing, and then caught on tape bragging about it. And unlike Trump, the bear wouldn’t gaslight me, claiming I’m too ugly to attack, something Trump actually said about E. Jean Carroll—right before she successfully won her case against him.
But Trump is not just a predator in the streets, he’s a predator in his policies. Just last week, we learned that a record number of pregnant women faced criminal prosecution since Trump fulfilled his promise to dismantle Roe. A devastating report from Pregnancy Justice reveals that in the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s decision to strip away the nationwide right to abortion, at least 210 women have been prosecuted for pregnancy-related crimes. One of the most chilling cases involves a woman who, after tragically delivering a stillborn baby at home, was charged with homicide simply for attempting to arrange a funeral—alerted to authorities by the funeral home itself. Other cases involve women being charged for searching about abortion online, not seeking prenatal care (in a country where it’s often unavailable) or having legal recreational drugs in their blood.
This is Trump’s America: a place where a felon can run for president, but a pregnant woman can go to jail doing a google search about healthcare.
So yeah, Trump saying he’s going to protect women is like a fox offering to protect the henhouse—except the fox has already wrecked havoc on the henhouse and blamed the chickens for it.
The cruelest irony is that without men like Trump, women wouldn’t need protection at all. It’s men like him—those who wield their power to harm—who make protection necessary in the first place. These are the same men who construct dangerous worlds for women, only to later pose as saviors. They fashion themselves as protectors, touting ideas designed to safeguard women, when in truth, they’re merely patching up the very harm they’ve inflicted. From orchestrating systemic assaults on women’s rights to exploiting their personal power, men like Trump fuel the very threats they claim to combat, reducing true protection to a hollow, self-serving charade.
Women don’t need to be protected, they need to be left alone. Hopefully, enough women (and men!) give Trump the hint on November 5th.

Amen. Trump's idea of "protecting" women is more like a protection RACKET. Kinda like, well, the patriarchy itself, in fact.
