hey bestie,
something kind of historic is unfolding, and i had to open my laptop and tell you first. i’m not really sure how or why, but our little feminist podcast BOY PROBLEMS is racing up the charts. it started with a million listens (which already made me cry in public), then someone told me we cracked the top 40 podcasts in the america which felt wild enough. in a world where 7 out of the top 10 podcasts are hosted by men (some hosted by several men) it means the absolute world that we’ve made it this far. and by we, i really do mean we. you made this happen.
in canada, we’re NUMBER FOUR. in the u.s., we’re climbing every hour. joe rogan is still number one. and i want to beat him. not because it’s about him, but because of what it would mean. that women’s voices don’t just belong here, they can rise here.
i’ve been told my voice is annoying. i’ve been told that i talk too fast. that i’m too emotional. too much. i’ve been told to be quieter. to be less ambitious. to stop taking up space. i’ve been told no one wants to hear a woman talk for an hour, especially not about feminism, masculinity, or anything that sounds too tender, too angry, too complicated, too real. but here we are in the top 10. building something they said couldn’t exist!!
here’s why this is bigger than us: the influence of podcasters in the last election was enormous. i just wrote about how deeply infuriating that was. it honestly became one of the most confusing, painful parts of my grieving process after the election, because after all the hours i spent deep canvassing in swing states, after all the effort to show up and do the work, i kept meeting good men who had simply been fed lies. not by extremists in dark corners of the internet, but by the podcasts they listened to every day. the content they listened to didn’t just ignore women, it subtlety blamed us. taught men that vulnerability was weakness and feminism was a threat. and then, right after the election, both of my podcasts ended. and something in me cracked open.
i couldn’t stop thinking about how different things might be if more men had been offered another kind of voice, a voice that invited them in, instead of manipulating their pain, a show that could hold grief, anger, humor, confusion, a space that made everyone feel welcome, especially the people who’d been made to feel like outsiders by both culture and politics.
i became consumed with the idea of creating something that could counter the influence of right-wing hosts like joe rogan. not with more noise. but with something human. and that’s how BOY PROBLEMS was born. not as a brand, or a reaction but as a place where we could build something that brings us together and helps us heal.
this podcast has never just been about me. it’s about all of us. it’s a vision. it’s a vibe. it’s the future. and we’re close. so close. and the truth is, i can’t do this without you.
so if you’ve ever read any of my words, if you’ve ever laughed, nodded, healed, or felt seen by anything i’ve written or said, now is your moment. if you believe in what we’re building together, if you believe we deserve to be heard, send an episode to a friend. write a positive review (to outweigh the sexist trolls who are flooding with negative ones!) or get one more person to press play.
because this isn’t just about joe rogan. it’s about what we’re replacing him with.
we’re building a show where men are allowed to feel and where women are allowed to be powerful, and where our collective liberation isn’t a threat, it’s the culture shift we’ve been waiting for. so let’s make podcast history. let’s keep climbing. let’s take up space we were never supposed to have. and let’s make sure we don’t give it back.
thank you from the bottom of my heart!!
