“Yes, I deserve a spring–I owe nobody nothing.” - Virginia Woolf
A new scintillating season is upon us, and I can tell it’s about to get so good. Spring flings, spring cleanings and spring clearings are enthusiastically skipping their way towards us, but when our flowers bloom, will we know to smell them?
While receiving may seem like a passive act, it can be just as dynamic as the act of pushing forward or propelling. “Be careful what you wish for,” an ex-boyfriend would often tell me as he would watch me spend another night burning the midnight oil at work. “It might come true.” I didn’t know what he meant at the time, because I just thought that I’d be ecstatic if the the opportunities that I desperately wanted would come my way. What I didn’t realize, was that I had spent so much time preparing for the worst, that I had forgotten to prepare for the best. So when that day came along and I manifested my actual dream job, I froze up and was so rattled, that I convinced the head of the network who offered it to me, not to hire me. The lesson for me was evident: working towards your dream takes energy, but so does receiving it.
