Yet again, the unfettered hubris of the Academy is already writing the jokes for the sparkling event…

I 100 percent agree on Gerwig being snubbed. The degree of difficulty and needle she threaded to make a doll into an entertaining, aesthetically pleasing AND culturally relevant story is truly astounding. However, with regard to Robbie, I wonder if the other women that were nominated were not just better (haven’t seen most of those movies)? In her case she’s not being snubbed relative to men’s performances but other women. Also I wonder if the men had a particularly down year leading to Gosling’s inclusion? He seemed fun for sure but I didn’t leave thinking oscar worthy. Glad that America Ferrara was recognized as she deserved the nom based on her monologue alone.

Kudos to America Ferrara for her Oscar nod & kudos to Ryan Gosling for calling out the Academy upon his own nomination. The patriarchy is real [gross].

I'm legitimately mad about this and it's also an INCREDIBLY stupid decision on a business and PR level. If the Academy was doing its best to become totally irrelevant, it couldn't come up with a better move than this.

Here we are again. The Barbie movie in its prowess continues to point out the relevance of the Barbie movie in and of itself.

The awards overlook equals BS, no doubt. But in a greater purpose, it shows how the Barbie movie remains on the front lines. Can’t stop, won’t stop.

I’d love to see you dig into this, Liz - feel like it explains a lot about the crossover between the loneliness epidemic and toxic masculinity: https://x.com/jburnmurdoch/status/1750849189834022932?s=20
