Oh Liz, thank you for this. Please remember your safety is the most important. You can’t fight for any one if you are hurt. You can still fight for us while you’re in Canada. It’s okay. Be safe. We will persevere and be excited to welcome you back post implosion. I admire you so much but please value yourself more than you value the fight. It’s okay, I promise.
Liz, please stay vigilant and safe. If that means you need to leave, so be it. I will continue to read your writing and support you within my power that I can. 💪🙏💛
Stay safe, Liz. And thanks for writing this. As a European who lived in the US for a while (as a grad student several years ago) I understand the feeling of loving America yet not wanting go there (or stay there, in your case) right now. My country has even issued a travel advisory for the US…
I’m baffled by the small numbers of people protesting openly, and yet I also understand the fear of speaking out. It’s necessary, though, so I’m thankful you are doing it.
Again - stay safe. And you better believe that if you were ever detained we will not stay silent.
Thanks, Liz. I hadn't heard about some of the examples you provided - of people in the country legally getting deported without due process (aka disappeared). There are now more examples of people being illegally deported than there are of "scary" stories of transwomen playing on girls teams.
America is supposed to be of, by, and for the people including anyone who wants to join her. America is beautiful because of its diversity and inclusion of brilliant and brave people like you. Never give up. Never surrender. ✊ 🫂 💙
Idk the intricacies of citizenship from marriage except from 90 day fiance, but it would be a baller move of you married an American just to stay and fight ✊
Oh Liz! This is so heartbreaking to read. I’m Canadian as well and it’s so sad to see how the relationship between us and America has deteriorated. My Dad is travelling to Florida to sell his house in April and I am worried about him going.
I will support you no matter where you are. Just please stay safe!
Liz I feel this in my bones. Great piece and if you need to go, do what you need to do...We will still read your work and listen to your voice! I hadn't checked Substack in a hot minute but a good friend is reading your book (and singing its praise) and I was like, I wonder how Liz is doing in the dumpster fire. Glad to know I am not alone in this fear, but wish it were different.
As a Jewish American watching the rise of fascism it's been a slow burn. We know what this looks like. The way Judaism/Jews have being weaponized alongside every other "group" including gender to justify their violence—dropping bombs, banning books, deporting people—is infuriating...Even the words "women" and "community" apparently banned. I wrote about this way back in 2020 as "How to fight for freedom and escape the “Land of the Free”. And in many ways, I still feel like I must be delusional to still be here.

i’ve been advised to avoid protests which breaks my heart 💔 what is the point of being here if i can’t exercise my free speech??!!
Sorry to hear that...:/. The way I see it, though, you writing this Substack is its own form of protest.

Liz, you're a brilliant soul, and we Americans are lucky to have you in our midst. ❤️❤️❤️
thanks for supporting my work!!!
Oh, and here are more to add to your list:
Badar Khan Suri, in the U.S. legally, DHS said was spreading “Hamas propaganda” when they arrested him. (Source: https://www.washingtonpost.com/immigration/2025/03/19/trump-deportation-georgetown-fellow-immigration/).
apparently there’s an anti-palestine group with a list 🥺 this is gestapo
❤️❤️❤️❤️ I appreciate you, I support you, thank you for all you do. I wish I could find more words.
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Keep up the great fight! Sending all the good energy🌈
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Stay safe, Liz 🩷 we’ll continue to support you and your work no matter where you are.
❤️🥹
And if you do get deported there is no guarantee that it'll be to Canada and not Mexico or El Salvador. 😬
litteraly so terrifying
No overreaction here! Keep speaking the truth LP 🙌🏾🫶🏾🙌🏾
❤️❤️❤️

i’ll be keeping your dad in my thoughts ❤️
I hope that doesn't happen. You're a very nice person Liz, and you don't deserve that
By the time Trump is finished, you won't want to live in America
😪😪😪😪
