Thank you for a wonderful year Liz! I will miss hearing your voice (at least) once a week. Looking forward to what this next year holds for you! As for subtracting, I’m looking to subtract as much digital media/things as I can and lean into the analog. Less phone, social media, apps, etc. More reading (actual books), writing (with pen and paper), more arts & crafts, more being outside. I just want to be less bombarded and stuck in a digital world. Get back to the roots and things I have control over.

Thank you so much for writing this - I am so glad I am not the only one feeling completely exhausted from 2024. Excited to think about what I can put down to go more gently into 2025 ❤️ (PS really miss your perspective on the Synced podcast - Would definitely listen if you started your own project someday!)

You're always amazing at putting what I need to hear into words at the time I most need to hear it. Thank you for everything you're continuing to do!

Love this! Some of this rings of Positive Psychology, which I'm going back to school for. And it reminded me a bit of what Carl Rogers said, about how therapy isn't so much of doing more as it is "removing obstacles" so that we can move forward.

Personally for the upcoming year I'm de-emphasizing time spent online so that I can emphasize more time in community and get more of that oxytocin hit.

“removing obstacles” is such a beautiful way to put it!

I love this, Liz! Thank you for being a guiding light this year. I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for you. As for me, I’m hoping to add in more quiet morning time instead of the daily doom scroll. Never easy, but definitely needed! Happy new year to you 💜

I love this idea🙌 It definitely feels like the more, More, MORE aspect of our culture has lost its shine and we as humans need a hustle break. I too am aiming for less tech time and more craft time. Also prioritising time spent face to face with people who make me feel good. Here’s to holding each other close and not stressing the small stuff in 2025🎉

Echoing everyone here and saying I needed this today. So much space in my life has been taken up by draining people and negative beliefs about myself. I know it won’t be easy, but I’m subtracting my energy and attention to those negative people/things in hopes that for once, I will be able to prioritize myself, not “optimize” myself. Absolutely love your work, Liz! Hope I get to hear your voice again soon.

I really needed to read this, I feel like 2024 in addition the the 9-5 I had to follow the news, in 2025 I'm going to unplug and do something I've been wanting to do for years, I've narrowed it down to writing a song or a poem or both! Thank you for your light shining through the darkness

I love this idea! I feel like I spend every day with guilt and regret over things I didn't do that I felt pressure to get done. It would feel great to not have those feelings next year!!! Love you Liz!!!!

Liz! I’m so happy to be part of this community. Your writing is always such a comfort and spending the debates/election with everyone here helped my anxious brain immensely. So thank you!

My only resolution this year is to lean into doing the one thing I love the most. I love Cinema and the history of it. So I’m aiming to watch 800 movies this year. I’m letting go of being ashamed of doing the thing I love the most because it’s seen as lazy or passive. I feel more alive when I’m watching movies , so I’m letting go of the guilt.

Looking forward to an amazing 2025 with this community!

Instead of New Years’ resolutions, I’ve been choosing a word/theme for the year. It’s helped so much with eliminating unachievable goals (and the subsequent stress spiral) and has given me space to be more reflective about each decision I make. 2024 was harmony, and for 2025 I’m going back to my first theme word (2022): Intentional.

Your beautiful words of wisdom definitely help provide another perspective and approach to intentionality for the year. I love the idea of becoming more intentional by eliminating things I don’t need.

My short list for less:

- time spent on social media

- making myself small to make others more comfortable

- staying quiet when I should speak up

- saying yes if it’s not the best choice for me

I’m excited to sit with this more and make a longer list! Thank you for what you do! 💜

I found a tweet or facebook or skylark or whatever post that I thought was absolutely brilliant. And, just like everything good, I found it on an Instagram story. But I couldn't figure out how to post a screenshot so, ya know, bear with me:

From someone named monsieurenjlolras

You've heard of "quiet quitting," now I'd like to introduce you to the next level, The French Work Ethic:

Do exactly what you're paid for and nothing more

Absolutely refuse to be available to contact when you're off the clock

Never prioritize work over your own health, well-being, or family because that would be insane, it's just a job

Have a little glass of wine

Take as long as you feel like for lunch

Deeply understand that work doesn't matter

Make sure your boss knows they're always your second priority

Now, I might add an asterisk here that says "*According to Emily in Paris" but it's certainly attractive and also hashtag goals.
